Summer demands fuss free makeup. A naturally pretty look that would not streak when you sweat. Something that is low maintainence and which looks great on the beach.

The trouble is, that carefree, nude makeup look is a lot harder to achieve than a painted face. How do you use makeup and look like you were born that way?

Start by taking care of your skin now. Your body is made up of what you eat and drink. Eat junk food and drink lots of sweet carbonated water and caffeine, and that's what your body has to work with. Your skin reflects the state of your health. If your body is full of junk, your skin is likely to be spotty, congested or at least, far from its best. You might get away with it while you are young, but sooner or later, your excesses would catch up with you.

Skip the cola. Drink lots of plain water, spring water or mineral water instead. Get a two liter bottle of mineral water, or fill a 2 liter bottle with drinking water and make it a point to finish that by the end of the day. If you can't tolerate plain water, squeeze a lemon and add that lemon juice to your water to flavor it. This would give your body a chance to clean out the junk.

Next, cut down on that junk food.Oily fries with an oily burger is going to load your body with more grease. If your skin is spotty, it might help if you cut down on the grease and sugar. By the way, bacteria loves sugar and you can thank bacteria for those infected spots on your face. Stop feeding the bacteria, keep your hands and hair off your face and let your skin recover. Step 1 - Perfect with concealer

Make your lips thoroughly kissable. Soft, rosy lips that glisten in the sun are perfect for summer... and all year round.

You'll need a touch of lipstick to add color to your bare face. Go for a pretty color like coral, rose, or a soft pink. The trick is to look in the mirror and see the color inside your lip. Pick your lipstick in a color similar to that for the most natural, prettiest look.

Take a lip brush and paint on the lipstick. Start by drawing the outline of your lips with the lip brush, then fill then in. Blot the lipstick with a tissue paper, then apply again. This would help the color stay on longer. Slick on a lip gloss for shine over the entire lips, or at least over the center of your bottom lip to make your lips look fuller.

Step 3 - Highlight with mascara

Bring the focus to your eyes. Your eyes are your best asset. Especially when framed by lush eyelashes. Since it is summer, go for a waterproof mascara. Make sure you get a good eye makeup remover to remove it each night before you sleep.

Get ready a clean mascara wand to separate your lashes. You can wash and dry the wand of an old mascara, or you could buy an eyelash comb.

Apply mascara over your upper lashes. Then touch a little mascara on your lower lashes with the tip of your mascara wand. Separate the lashes with a clean mascara brush or wand and let the mascara dry. Once the mascara is completely dry, you may apply a second coat if you want more dramatic lashes. First of all - what is mineral makeup? Mineral makeup is made from naturally-occuring crushed minerals, usually zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, iron oxides and mica. These loose minerals are combined together in different quantities to make a variety of mineral makeup powder formulations such as foundations, finishing powders, concealers, blushers, bronzers and eye shadows. The minerals titanium dioxide and zinc oxide in particular, act as a natural sunblock, effectively filtering UVA and UVB rays to deliver sun protection of up to SPF 20.

Mineral makeup is free of irritants like perfumes, preservatives (such as parabens), alcohols and dyes. Many traditional makeup brands use synthetic FD&C dyes in their products - however, these dyes have been identified as the one of the leading causes of allergic reactions in makeup. Most mineral makeup lines do not use synthetic dyes, instead, the colors are derived from naturally-occuring iron oxide pigments. All this makes mineral makeup very suitable for people with sensitive skin. In fact, mineral makeup has even been used after surgical procedures like laser peels, when skin is at its most sensitive.

However, not all mineral makeup lines are completely free of chemical irritants. Some brands use the bismuth oxychloride, which can be very irritating on the skin. Bismuth oxychloride is a mineral that is used in some major mineral makeup lines because it imparts a shimmery look to their makeup, and is a cheap filler. Bismuth oxychloride is also heavy, hence the need to 'buff' or force it into your skin. Mineral makeup lines that do not use bismuth oxychloride tend to be lighter in texture and easier to apply.

Mineral makeup can also be good for acne sufferers. By its very nature, mineral cosmetics are non-comedogenic, oil-free, anti-inflammatory and cannot harbor bacteria, which means that acne blemishes can be covered or concealed without further aggravating them. Mineral makeup will not necessarily cure acne, but skin has a much better chance of healing while wearing it, compared to traditional makeup. Many have also reported that they have fallen asleep wearing their mineral makeup without suffering any breakouts the following day. In fact, some mineral makeup lines even have mineral night-time treatments, which are specially-formulated mineral powders that you can wear every night to improve your skin. Crucially, mineral makeup avoids the use of talc, a known carcinogen found in a lot of traditional makeup. There are also no petrochemicals or coal-derived ingredients, common in a lot of traditional makeup. There are some who wouldn't be caught dead in public without make up
and then there are some who refuse to wear make up at all and prefer
the natural look.

Some people have told me they like to let their skin breathe. Well
don't worry about it! There's plenty of skin on your body, let the rest
of it do the breathing! Your skin is fed from the inside and won't
suffer so long as you make sure you cleanse at the end of the day.

But you can actually create a natural look using make up. That way you
can have that clean fresh appearance while being able to disguise those
flaws that you (and probably only you!) dislike.

So let's have a basic lesson on how to apply make up to create a fresh natural look.

Natural make up techniques

We'll look at base (foundation), concealer, powder and blush this time
and in part 2 go on to how to apply make up for the eyes and mouth.

In the case of applying make up the term "less is more" definitely
applies! If your going to enjoy a big night out on the town that's
different - use your bright eye shadow, lippie and glittery mascara.
You can put on a bit more foundation too, to create a flawless palate
on which to "paint" your masterpiece!

But during the day whether you're at work, at home or hitting the shops
you don't want to look like Coco the clown! Too much makeup can
actually appear very ageing.

So let's start with a really clean face. For daytime use a moisturizing
sunscreen or sun block. If your skin is oily use a non oily one, if
it's very dry use both moisturizer and sun block.

Make up base (or foundation) comes in many types, liquid, stick, cream
etc. Mostly this is a matter of preference although the stick or
"solid" base usually has a better coverage and will hide things like
broken veins almost completely. The liquid bases have a lighter
coverage and will give a more natural look.

If your skin is oily, the dry compact bases work well, or opt for an
oil free liquid one. Dry skins like the cream bases which give a moist
'dewy' appearance.

Make sure the base you choose matches the colour of your skin as
closely as possible. Don't try and create a darker sun tanned look with
your base, there are bronzing powders specially created for this. Go
outside the store when selecting different colours and make sure they
look ok in natural light. It's best to test on your jaw line rather
your wrist.

Don't buy pre-packaged make-up bases from the supermarket, you'll not be able to try them on!

Concealers are great for that natural look, you can cover blemishes and
broken veins with a concealer without having to use a heavy base all
over your face.

Concealers also come in different forms but they all do the same job.
You can buy them with built in sunscreen and also with anti bacterial
additives if you like. Try to find one just slightly lighter than your
skin tone. Pat the concealer onto the area you wish to cover. Don't rub
hard or it will disappear into your pores. Make sure it is blended well
and has no "tide marks".

Now dot the base onto your face. Use the sheerest one you can. Don't use too much at first, you can always add more.

Blend really well. Some make up artists recommend a damp sponge, but
fingers work just as well. Make sure you blend into the hairline, sides
of face, around the nose and particularly the jaw line. Don't just stop
at the jaw, your face will look like a mask. Just blend away to nothing
before your throat, that way you won't get make-up stains on your
collar.

Powder is optional but I like to use it as it "sets" your make-up and
absorbs excess oil. Press the powder onto your face with a puff or you
may prefer to use a powder brush. After a couple of minutes brush the
powder off using light downward strokes.

Next apply blusher. Brush this lightly on the apple of your cheeks and
up towards the temples. Don't put too much on your brush, you can
always go over it again. If you are using a cream blusher, apply this
before powder. Dot onto the apple of your cheeks and blend in up to the
temples. Blend really well!

Now for my special tip. Place a cool damp (not wet) face washer over
your face and press very gently. this will give the whole face a fresh
look - Gorgeous!

These items vary in prices but most of the time the best items that you use on your faces are quite expensive. Sometimes it takes an investment to look beautiful. On top of that, some people have sensitive skin. Therefore, it is quite understandable why some prefer to buy those that are high-priced. That is why it is important to take care of your makeup. If you do not want to put it into waste, follow some of these tips in how to care for it.

1. When bringing these items with you, make sure to group them all together in one small bag. Doing it this way will avoid having them crushed by your big stuff and it will also be protected from blows when your bag accidentally drops.

3. Make sure to avoid putting them in places with extreme temperatures or humidity. Some of them have other components that can cause reaction and might form toxins or irritants that can be bad for your skin when applied.

4. After using them, make sure you seal them properly to avoid wastage or accidental spillage. You also do not want the compactness of some makeup to be destroyed easily.

5. Never leave them anywhere. Keep them out from the reach of your children. They can play with it or it might get accidentally knocked off, that some compact makeup will be powderized.

Everyday I run into people who try to make their marketing materials look like they are a world-wide, multi-billion dollar heartless corporation. What they forget to show through is their PERSONALITY.

Here is a newsflash 'we don't do business with corporations - we do business with other people!
